Our school is an integral part of ST. JOHN'S EPISCOPAL CHURCH of McAllen, Hidalgo County, Texas.  St. John's Church is a non-profit corporation and a member of the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas.  St. John's is founded upon Christian principles and desires to achieve the highest academic standards.  It has no corporate or personal identification, and is not a legal entity.  Rather, it achieves its identity by being a major part of St. John's Episcopal Church.  However, this school raises its own income and makes its own decisions subject to approval of the Vestry of St. John's Church.  In all matters involving church and school, the Vestry of St. John's Episcopal Church is the ultimate authority.  This school does not discriminate among students or personnel due to race, color, creed, or national origin.

HISTORY OF ST. JOHN'S EPISCOPAL DAY SCHOOL

St. John's Episcopal Day School was founded in September of 1958 by Mrs. Dorothy Tatum, with a kindergarten class and one teacher. Mrs. Mary Ashley, who after teaching at the school for ten years, served as Administrator from 1974 through 1989. Upon Mrs. Ashley retirement, Karen Henderson was appointed Administrator of St. John's Day School and served until 2001. Mrs. Henderson is succeeded by Jovita Myatt. Mrs. Myatt taught first grade for six years. Over the years St. John's Day School has grown to its present healthy capacity of 270 students and 45 staff members.

Alumni of St. John's Day School serve as its current teachers, parent volunteers, and school board members, with many second-generation students now enrolled. St. John's has a makeup of 51.6% minority. Of the current enrollment, 5% are of the Episcopalian faith.

The student body and administration, which is increasingly reflective of the surrounding community of McAllen, finds itself supported within a closely and consciously interwoven fabric of relationships. These relationships consist of the church and school, the vestry and school board, the teachers and parents, and the administrators and clergy.

This school is an integral part of St. John's Episcopal Church of McAllen, is a Texas non-profit corporation, and a member of the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas.
